Clare, Antony

Antony Clare was born in Nottingham in 1964. He read music at York University and has subsequently combined private instrumental teaching with a range of performing activities, including solo recitals in Nottingham and London, a concerto performance with the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra and also much day to day work as an accompanist for recitals and exams.

He has formed several successful partnerships with local musicians, focusing on the contemporary music repertoire.  In addition to being one half of SCAW (with Sarah Watts, bass clarinet), he particularly enjoys performing 20th century English song repertoire and playing chamber music for piano and wind as pianist with the Hough Ensemble.

Antony is involved in promoting the activities of CoMA (Contemporary Music-making for All) in the local area.  He has a deep commitment towards widening the available opportunities for non-professional musicians to compose and perform quality “art music”.  He occasionally finds time to do some composing himself!
