Van Eycken, Karel

Karel Van Eycken (°1943) studied music as an autodidact. At the age of 60 when he retired from his professional life as a building engineer he could concentrate entirely on composing.

A flow of new compositions followed from 2003 on. Until now, around 120 compositions appeared and are edited by DMP. The majority is chamber music, for all kinds of combinations: from solo works and sonatas until nonets completed with five symphonies and seven concertos.

New compositions are planned because the energy for creation is still there. He wrote also a biography (in Dutch) of the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu.

His 6 string quartets are recorded on CD.
